Cinder - by Marissa Meyer

A cyborg Cinderella story. Instead of losing a shoe, she loses a robotic foot. An evil queen from another planet threatens earth and somehow, good must prevail. Confused yet? I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book! This author put her twist on a classic fairy tale that had me hooked immediately.

Cinder is a cyborg who lives in China, years after World War IV. She has amazing technical/mechanical skills. From here the story parallels with the classic fairy tale. She lives with her step mother and step sisters. She meets a prince. There's a ball/celebration that the entire city is invited to attend. While this story moves along, we are also informed that there is a sickness cropping up around the world. An evil queen from another planet is trying to get her hands ruling Earth (through the prince) and threatens to start a war. So what does this cyborg-nobody have to do with helping the planet with everything that's going on? You'll have to read to find out!

Cinder is the first book in a series of four. Next book in the series is Scarlet -- which I read and is just as awesome! You continue with Cinder's journey, but also meet Scarlet an unlikely ally, Wolf. Know where I'm going with this fairy tale character?
