I Don't Want A Sister Anymore!

I've been waiting for the day when I’d hear the words that came from my son's mouth today - "I don't want her to be my sister anymore!" Today, the younger sister pushed his buttons far enough!!! Well...I guess if you got smacked in the head with an umbrella you'd be pretty pissed off and would utter something similar (sprinkled with a little foul language).

Over the past several months the sibling rivalry in the house has been on the rise. Bickering, arguing, yelling, hitting, pinching, and every so often biting. I keep hearing from parents with older kids that this is only the beginning and that it doesn’t get any better. Thanks for the encouragement everyone :) However, even when they drive me absolutely up a wall with their antics there are times I just have to laugh thinking back to the days when I was growing up with my younger sister.

When we were younger, we too had our epic blowout arguments. She was the little sister who would intentionally hurt herself and blame it on me. And of course I was the older sister who “should know better”. Scary part? I use those same words today with my son!!!  I’ve also heard plenty of stories from my husband about him and his younger sister and some of their stories are just as bad, if not worse, than the ones of my sister and me.

But today, my sister is my absolute best friend as my husband and my sister-in-law are. I would do ANYTHING for my sister…even though she once cut all the hair off my Barbie dolls, drew “make-up” on several of my JEM dolls, and put bubble gum in my hair and caused me to have a terrible haircut for a few weeks. But if we were able to get through all that craziness and be best friends today, then I am perfectly fine dealing with the bickering of my two kids in the hopes that they grow up to be the best of friends!
